In Berber culture, ‘Handira’ wedding blankets are hand woven by the bride’s female relatives before the wedding, each sequin sewn by hand. They take weeks, sometimes months to make and are thought to bring luck, fertility and ward off evil spirits for the newly weds, due to the ‘Baraka’ (blessings) that have been mindfully hand-stitched into them.
We hand source the highest quality vintage wedding blankets, so they are generally quite heavy, with thousands of hand-sewn sequins. They are best used for decorative purposes, as throws over sofas or chairs, at the end of the bed or as wall hangings.
